A Stanford/HHMI lab seeks a full-time Research Bioinformatics Specialist. The Research Bioinformatics Specialist will be one of the main computational biology experts for the lab and support our efforts in human immunology through the design, implementation and maintenance of tools for high throughput data analysis. He/she will identify needs for collecting accessing and analyzing immune research data by meeting with members of the team and the Principal Investigator frequently. Implement these goals either by independent programming and analysis or by collaboration with other groups. Build database-driven web applications for the storage, dissemination and analysis of immune related data. Develop methods for integrating biological data from diverse measurement systems and biological levels. Assess new immune related measurement technologies and provide a computational analysis of related pilot projects. The Research Bioinformatics Specialist is expected to provide a solution based on a thorough understanding of the biology, project goals and associated work flow. He/She is expected to exercise good judgment in all areas of responsibility. The job entails a diversity of analyses and requires interaction with laboratory-based and clinical scientists in the School of Medicine as well as with collaborators in other Schools at Stanford, nationally, and internationally.
Required:
Analysis of biological experiments including gene expression, flow cytometry, and other high-throughput methods, as well as a working knowledge of protein structure prediction methods. Use of biological databases such as NCBI, MGI and knowledge of available bioinformatics analysis tools. Knowledge of SQL (Oracle) and experience in integration of biological data from diverse sources, database development. Experience in development of front end web applications. Bachelor’s degree in Computational Biology/Bioinformatics or Bioengineering required plus 3 years or more of related experience required. Ph.D in computational biology/Bioinformatics or BioEngineering is desired.
