Bioinformatics Research Data Analyst – Penn State University

A Bioinformatics Analyst position is available within the laboratory of Prof. B. Franklin Pugh, in the Center for Eukaryotic Gene Regulation at the Pennsylvania State University.

The position requires carrying out computational processing, analysis, management, and web design using data produced by high throughput sequencing technologies. Responsibilities include the following: developing and/or maintaining existing software pipelines for analyzing high throughput sequencing data; identifying, evaluating and documenting new methodologies to support ongoing research needs; writing code and developing solutions to computational biology problems; developing a web interface for data dissemination. The successful candidate will also interact with a team of students and researchers, assisting them with bioinformatics and statistics-based analysis.

Requirements include: In-depth understanding of the analysis and processing of data from DNA sequencing technologies and their applications; expertise in processing data in common bioinformatic data formats; knowledge of available bioinformatic/clinical genomics tools and databases; proven track record of delivering bioinformatics-driven solutions; experience with Unix/Linux-based platforms; demonstrated programming skills in one or more programming languages or numerical platforms; knowledge of Python or Java preferred; experience handling large data sets; excellent communication skills; expertise in web design and management.
